Early 2011 I participated in a contest on Talenthouse; the winners would be allowed to take pictures at a Maroon 5 concert. While the smoke picture that I had entered did make it into the top (30?) that would be presented to Maroon 5 for them to select the winners, I did not win.
Exactly one year later, thanks to the company Nuance Communications, I got to be one of only about 500 guests at a private Maroon 5 concert in Mexico. I was able to take a lot of pictures of Adam Levine and the band, and the concert was superb. I had decided to also film a song or two. Holding my camera and 70-200 lens above my head (about 2.3kg combined), Murphy made sure that one of the songs was an 8 minute 40 second song that included a cover of Roxane and a great battle between Adam Levine’s voice and James Valentine’s electric guitar. By the way… a couple of hours before the concert, I saw Adam and the band on the deck of their beach cabin at the hotel, and walked up the stairs to them, we shook hands and I mentioned the talenthouse contest I didn’t win and how I was going to get to take pictures of them that evening nonetheless.. Adam remembered the contest, if not my specific picture. I spoke with the tour manager a bit and confirmed that it was OK for me to bring my camera to the show.
